Regent Medical Centre and Broadway Medical Centre merged into one contract on the 1st April 2022.

What does this mean?

As of the 1st April 2022 the GP contract will merge however there will be a transitional period over the next 5 months in terms of update to systems and processes. 

April – July

The practices will continue to provide services separately with no change to surgery telephone numbers or the way that services are provided. 

During this period patients will only be able to access the surgery they are registered with.

August

We are awaiting a final date for the update to our clinical system.  The update will enable process changes e.g. booking an appointment at either site.  When details and a date of any changes have been established we will communicate out to patients with the information and what it will mean.

Regent Medical Centre offers same day appointments for acutely unwell children - just contact the Surgery on Tel: 0191 223 6555 to speak to a member of our team.  

Would you like your repeat prescriptions to be sent to your chosen pharmacy electronically?  This can be set up very easily just ask at the reception desk. 

Do we have your current mobile telephone number? If not please see the Receptionist who can add it to your records, then in the future we can text you an appointment reminder.

The Practice is required by the Government to inform all patients of their own Named Accountable GP.  The Named Accountable GP for all patients at Regent Medical Centre is Dr V Kaura. However you are still free to see any GP of your choice.

Services

NHS Health Checks 40 -74 year olds

Patients identified as at risk of developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease will be invited by letter to make an appointment with the practice nurse.

The appointment will be 20 minutes and the nurse will ask some simple questions about your family history and what medications you take. She will record your height, weight, sex and ethnicity and take your blood pressure. She will also do a simple blood test to check your cholesterol level.

After we have received your results you will be invited back to see the nurse for further 20 min appointment when she will discuss the findings with you and give advice on how to reduce your risk and stay healthy. If necessary she may take a further blood sample and re-check your blood pressure. Sometimes it may be necessary to make an appointment with the GP as well as the nurse in case you need some medication but this will be made clear in your letter.

Asthma/Chronic Respiratory Disease

This is run by the practice nurse and involves an annual check of respiratory measurements and updating of medication.

Healthy Heart Clinic / Cerebrovascular

This is for those with heart disease and previous stroke disease and involves an annual check-up and blood test with the practice nurse.

Counselling

This is organised via referral by the doctor or sometimes the nurse. We have on site counsellors and psychologists. You can also self refer via Newcastle Talking Therapies, see www.newcastletalkingthereapies.org.

Cervical Smear Tests

All women between ages 25-64 are advised to have regular smear tests. You are invited by a national recall system to make an appointment with the practice nurse at your convenience.

Blood Pressure Checks

This involves an annual blood pressure check and review of medication with the practice nurse.

Ear Care

Removal of wax - olive oil should be inserted into the ear twice a day for up to 2 weeks. If you still have problems after this then please make an appointment to see the Doctor.

Epilepsy Checks

Appointments are annual with the Practice Nurse to monitor seizure history and review on-going medication.

Continence/Bowel Management

Please contact the district nurse regarding any concerns or problems. Ask at reception for contact details.

Over 75 checks

This is a comprehensive annual health check for those patients over the age of 75.

Well Person

This is run by our practice nurse and covers many health promotion issuers related to men and women.

Family Planning

Family planning and contraception can be discussed in the context of usual surgery, during appointments with any of the doctors or nurses. We can offer a full range of family planning services and organise referral for insertion of IUDs (coils) and contraceptive implants to a local practice.

Minor Surgery

We are able to offer a wide range of minor surgical operations including cryotherapy at the practice. These include removal of warts, moles, skin lesions, small lumps and ingrown toenails.

Travel

Travel immunisation and advice about all health protection issues surrounding travel can be obtained by booking an appointment to see the practice nurse. Please allow plenty of time before your date of travel.
